Christian denominations celebrate Easter by holding prayers and masses

Damascus, SANA – Christian denominations in Syria, who follow the Eastern calendar, on Sunday celebrated Easter, the resurrection of Jesus the Christ.

Prayers and masses were performed at churches in celebration of Easter.

His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East presided  a holy mass at St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral at Bab Touma in Damascus, during which he stressed that “The Syrians, Muslims and Christians, are members of one family and adherent to the homeland from which Christianity spread throughout the world,” calling upon Syrian expatriates to cooperate with governments of the countries where they live for restoring security and stability to the country.

He stressed that everyone should help reach a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and rebuild it, reiterating that Syria will achieve victory in its war against terrorism thanks to its people who rally around their army and the wise leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.
