Homs Governor: First stage of maintenance works to rehabilitate infrastructure in Palmyra City launched

Homs, SANA – Governor of Homs Talal al-Barazi stressed that the first stage of the one-month maintenance works at Palmyra City kicked off to help displaced people get back to their homes and neighborhoods after being cleared from ISIS terrorists.

Al-Barazi’s remarks came during his visit to Palmyra City where he inspected the status of the National Hospital, the automatic bakery plant, firefighting center and the Industrial Secondary School.

He underlined the workers’ efforts to reopen all governmental departments and state institutions, rehabilitate a part of the National Hospital and provide the automatic bakery plant with maintenance teams in order to re-operate the bakery and meet the citizens’ needs of bread within a week .

The governor pointed out to the huge damage and destruction caused by the terrorist attacks which requires closer cooperation between families and the concerned parties.

In turn, Director of Technical Services in Homs, Amin Issa underlined the Directorate’s efforts to remove rubble and open roads and streets so that damage caused to infrastructure and facilities can be estimated.

For his part, Director of the Homs Water Company Hassan Hmeidan said that the company workers have succeeded in operating the first water well pumping 300 cubic meter per hour which is enough for home use until damage caused to the network is totally repaired.

Director of Transport, Khalil al-Khalil referred to the damage caused to the transport sub-directorate which was under-construction and included two hangars for testing vehicles and their parts, underlining the possibility of being repaired immediately after informing the Ministry to take necessary procedures in this regard.
Earlier, al-Barazi announced that governmental buses will daily take residents to and from Palmyra starting from April 9th. The buses will move at 8:00 am from in front of the southern door of the governorate building and return at 5:00 pm.
