Zakharova: Parties casting doubts on Geneva process still betting on use of force

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on all external players to exert utmost efforts to contribute to the success of the inter-Syrian dialogue in Geneva, considering that the parties which are casting doubts on Geneva process are still betting on the use of force.

“While being in contacts with international and regional partners, we encourage them to do utmost to contribute to the success of the Geneva talks. As we have already said, another chance to achieve peace and stability in Syria may not appear in the foreseeable future. The forces that want to disrupt the peace process have put stakes on continued violence in Syria,” Zkharova said in a press conference on Thursday.

The spokeswoman called for representing all spectra of the Syrian opposition in the inter-Syrian talks and engaging the Kurds who are fighting against terrorists, pointing out that the big differences in the views of the opposition may lead to new obstacles in the talks.

She added that talk about the departure of a presidents is outside the jurisdiction of international law and the UN Charter which contain clear provisions on non-interference in the internal affairs of states, adding that the scenario of changing regimes have never yielded any positive results.

Commenting on the announcement of some Kurdish groups of what they called “federation in northern Syria”, Zakharova reiterated Moscow’s views that Syria is an integral, secular and democratic state and that it is up for the Syrians to decide the fate of their country.
