Slovak Foreign Minister: Hopes of reaching political solution in Syria are now higher

Bratislava, SANA – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajcak said that the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva which aims to resolve the crisis in Syria inspires cautious optimism so far.

During an interview with the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR), Lajcak said that the reason behind this optimism is that the talks are being held against the backdrop of the cessation of hostilities agreement, which is considered a positive factor in itself.

Lajack added that while the cessation of hostilities agreement might be fragile, and breaches have occurred, but it’s still standing and the situation on the ground is improving, so the hopes for a political solution are now higher.

He pointed out that the longer the cessation of hostilities endures, the desire to return to confrontations will decrease, and therefore this opportunity should be seized upon to achieve a political solution for the crisis in Syria.
