India stresses standing by Syria in counterterrorism

New Delhi, SANA – Indian Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla has stressed India’s support to Syria in counterterrorism.

During her meeting with Syria’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun in New Delhi on Sunday, the Indian Minister pointed out that combating terrorism is imperative wherever it exists, expressing hope that the upcoming inter-Syrian dialogue in Geneva would result in regaining stability and security to Syria and preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, Mufti Hassoun lauded the Indian government’s stance in support of Syria against terrorism and in assertion of a political solution to the crisis and the non-interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Mufti Hassoun’s visit to India comes in response to an invitation from the Art of Living Foundation to participate in the third World Culture Festival which was concluded on Sunday with the participation of 150 countries from different continents.

In a speech during his participation on Saturday, Mufti Hassoun stressed the Syrian people’s love for peace and life and their renunciation of wars, expressing appreciation of the Indian people and culture.
