Damascus, SANA-The People’s Assembly held a session on Wednesday to discuss the performance of the Agriculture Ministry during the current crisis and its procedures to continue to subsidize farmers and provide the requirements of the agricultural production.
Agriculture Minister Ahmad al-Qadri affirmed that the implementation percentage of the agricultural plan under the current conditions is “acceptable and good”, pointing to a surplus in some crops and the ministry is seeking to secure new markets to promote them.
The minister pointed out that the ministry distributed during the last season 28 million veterinary vaccine doses and disbursed SYP 2.5 billion on seeds and animal fodders, and SYP 1.5 billion for farmers affected by natural disasters, noting that the implementation perception of the wheat reached 61% while that of barley amounted to 75% and potato to 74%.
For their part, the Assembly members affirmed the necessity of compensating farmers affected by frost.
The members also called for providing pesticides and holding persons who are smuggling wheat to Turkey to account.
