People’s Assembly holds extraordinary session to discuss economic situation, Syrian Pound

Damascus, SANA- People’s Assembly held Monday its the fifth extraordinary session of the 3rd legislative term to discuss economic and living situation and exchange rate of the Syrian pound.

The session is chaired by the Speaker Hammoudeh Sabbagh, in the presence of Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and number of ministers.

Speaking during the session, Premier Arnous said some see this meeting as an urgent one for a dangerous issue, but the facts unfortunately say the instability is the predominant situation presented here since the war been waged by Syria’s enemies.

“The National economy has been witnessing an evident and long –lasting instability stage which headlined the huge and accelerated local currency exchange rate rise, along with the decline in the purchasing power that overwhelms those with limited income, not to mention the wrong pricing mechanism” Arnous noted.

“The government attaches great importance to the production process , trying to reconcile securing the fundamentals of the economic growth and supporting production on the one hand , and to control the exchange rate on the other hand.” he added.

“We have reached a set of decisions and draft legislative instructions that give more satisfaction to the business sector and provide financing for the import process, including the allocation of foreign exchange available at the disposal of the Central Bank of Syria to finance the list of basic materials directly and without any delay, Arnous stated.

The government must take bold, responsible and rational decisions that ensure preserving the free and independent national decision, Premier Arnous underscored.
