Sweida, SANA – The authorities concerned in Sweida foiled Wednesday night an operation to smuggle a large quantity of ammunition for medium and heavy weapons coming from the eastern countryside of the neighboring Daraa province and bound for terrorist organizations in the Syrian Badiya (desert).
A source at Sweida governorate said in a statement to SANA reporter that the seized ammunition included tank, mortar and artillery shells, noting that the ammunition were hidden inside a diesel tank mounted on a pickup.
The vehicle was seized in the western countryside of Sweida province.
Last October, the authorities seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition for terrorist organizations in an ambush on Salkhad-al-Mneizra junction in the southern countryside of Sweida.
Mortar and RPG rounds, machine gun bullets, grenades, incendiary chemical substances and other materials used for making explosives were confiscated in the operation.
