Damascus, SANA – Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) discussed on Sunday ways of preserving genetic origins and resources of plants and animals in Syria.
During a workshop held by the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO representative in Syria Eriko Hibi said the workshop came to present the results of a report prepared by the FAO in cooperation with the Ministry and other research centers that spots the impact of the terrorist war in Syria on plant and animal genetic resources.
Three papers about the history, importance and variety of plant and animal genetic resources and means of maintaining them were presented during the workshop.
Representatives of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD, the Ministry of State for Environment Affairs, the Planning and International Cooperation Commission and the Faculty of Agriculture at Damascus University participated in the workshop.
