Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved during its weekly session on Tuesday a draft resolution on granting Aleppo City council a financial contribution of SYP 500 million to cover its work expenses in light of the current circumstances.
Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi said the Cabinet is monitoring the status of the SYP exchange rate and the steps taken by the Central Bank and the Currency and Credit Council to stabilize it.
He noted that after the Aleppo-Khanasser-Ethraia-Salamiya road was reopened thanks to the efforts of the Syrian Arab Army, the government rushed to provide the people of Aleppo with their needs of consumer products and fuel, and that work in this field is ongoing.
Other than the one related to Aleppo, the Cabinet approved two draft resolutions granting the General Establishment of Railways a loan of SYP 75 million and granting the establishments for water studies, water projects, roads, bridges, and construction loans of SYP 167.44 million, in addition to approving a request from the Central Bank to fund the importation of 200,000 tons of wheat.
The Cabinet also approved a bill on amending the law for servicemen pensions to grant disability compensations to military personnel injured in the line of duty, in addition to discussing a bill on exempting businessmen from fines and interests due to the General Establishment of Social Security if they pay their dues to the Establishment within a year.
On a relevant note, the Cabinet denounced in a statement the terrorist attacks that targeted Lattakia city on Tuesday and claimed 16 lives and injured 53 civilians, with the Prime Minister offering his sincerest condolences to the victims’ families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
