Information Minister: Russia’s role will lead to ending war in Syria, moving to a political process

Damascus, SANA- Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi expressed Syria’s confidence that the stance of Russia, Iran, China, the “BRICS” countries in general and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states will not change as they will continue to support Syria based on the solid and firm friendship relations that bind them with it.

In an interview with the Iraqi Beladi TV, Minister al-Zoubi said that the Syrian-Russian relations are deeply rooted and historic and there is a high-level coordination between the two countries.

He added that Russia has never interfered in the Syrian sovereign decision and its stance is based on the international law, referring to the huge efforts exerted by Moscow to solve the crisis in Syria politically.

“We are confident that the Russian role will lead to ending the war in Syria and will achieve a stable security situation without terrorism, in addition to finding a suitable situation for the beginning of a political process,” al-Zoubi said.

He added that the political track couldn’t be realized on the ground without fighting terrorism, although this doesn’t prevent the beginning of a political track.

Al-Zoubi indicated that there has been an abject failure of the US-led Alliance under the title of “fighting the ISIS” and that the US documents themselves indicate that the number of the killed ISIS terrorists after thousands of airstrikes over more than a year has never exceeded 118, which clearly proves that the goal of the US has been to contain this terrorist organization and to exploit it in pressurizing governments and making structural changes in the region.

He affirmed that dialogue couldn’t be held with groups and persons who support and back terrorism and who make contacts with the Israeli enemy, affirming at the same time that dialogue can be held only with a national opposition that adopts national agendas.
