Commission for Family and Population Affairs stresses role of sports in supporting marginalized children and youth

Damascus, SANA- A workshop was held on Sunday by the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs under the title “Sports Project for development” in which participants discussed the role of sports in providing psychological and social support for children especially under the current circumstances.

The workshop, which was held in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the General Sports Union and the Syrian scouts, is aimed to prepare cadres and enable them to reach the most marginalized and affected youth by the current circumstances and enhance their sports’ skills.

Hadeel al-Asmar, head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs said during the opening of the workshop that sport is important for a healthy upbringing of kids, adding that it is a means for children to heal from the pressures brought about by the current situation.

In turn, Hamida Ramadani, deputy representative of UNICEF in Syria indicated the importance of sport for youth under the current circumstances and its role in providing them with psychological and social support, promoting the values of social solidarity and integration, citing the need for work and commitment to support the youth.
