Syria, Iran discuss cooperation in tourism, art, theatre, and movie production

Damascus, SANA – Tourism Minister Bishr Yazigi and Iranian Culture Minister Ali Ahmad Jannati discussed on Friday prospects for developing tourism between the two countries and means to overcome the obstacles affecting the Syrian tourism sector due to the crisis.

The meeting was held on the sideline of the International Media Conference Against Terrorism currently being held at the Opera House in Damascus.

In a statement to SANA after the meeting, Minister Jannati said that the meeting discussed the religious and tourist visits from Iran to Syria which have witnessed a decrease due to the current events, but now there is no reason not to resume these visits since Damascus city is safe.

For his part, Yazigi said that there are elements that make partnership and integration between Syria and Iran in the field of tourism a very promising prospect, and that the meeting touched on ways to expand cooperation in this field via a number of memos that will be signed in the future.

He also underlined the vital connection between tourism and mass media, and that Syria managed to retain much of its luster despite all attempts by Takfiris to undermine its tourist, historical, and civilized components.

In the same context, Jannati met Culture Minister Issam Khalil, and the two agreed to cooperate in the fields of art, theatre, movie production, and boo translation, with Jannati saying that there are large avenues for cooperation between the two countries in all fields, and they must be utilized to the fullest.

In turn, Khalil said that the meeting will serve to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of art and culture, stressing that the mutual threat to Syria and Iran posed by terrorism and Takfiri mentality make it essential for the two countries to cooperate to ward it off.

He also said that Minister Jannati voiced readiness to provide technical assistance for moviemaking in Syria and all that is needed to overcome obstacles caused by the war.
