Health Minister at Parliament: National medicine covers 89% of local market

Damascus, SANA- Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said that the national medicine covers nearly 89% of the local market needs through 70 factories, adding the surplus medicine is exported to five countries.

Yazaji was speaking at a session for People’s Assembly on Wednesday to discuss the performance of the Health ministry and approve a number of laws.

During the session, the Minister answered questions raised by MPs about the health sector performance during the current crisis and the necessity of observing the work of pharmacies and adopting precautionary measures to cease the spread of epidemics including Leishmania.

Minister Yazigi said that local pharmaceutical industry operates in an acceptable manner and all medicines are controlled by the ministry and medical syndicates.

He added that the ministry imports anti-cancer and chronic medicines by Pharmix co. from Iran through the credit line and the ministry offers anti-cancer drugs for free in all its hospitals.

For their part, the MPs stressed the need for establishing new hospitals and taking required measures to prevent the country from epidemics as a result of “unclean drinking water.”

Later, the Assembly approved several laws on exempting tax-payers from penalties for 2014 and before if they pay the dues until the end of the current year.
