People’s Assembly delegation discusses with Vice-President of Czech Senate counterterrorism efforts

Prague, SANA- A delegation of the People’s Assembly, headed by its deputy Speaker Fahmi Hassan discussed on Wednesday with Ivo Barek, who is vice-president of the Czech Senate, the situation in Syria and counterterrorism efforts.

A delegation of People’s Assembly started on Tuesday a 4-day visit to Czech upon an invitation by Czech Parliament (House of Deputies).

The delegation will hold talks with senior deputies and with Chairman and members of the European Affairs Committee at the Parliament on the EU sanctions imposed on Syria.

Hassan said in a statement to SANA reporter that the Czechs call for dialogue in Syria, oppose any external interference in its crisis and reject any support for terrorist organizations.

He said the visit comes in the framework of the current change in the political climate as terrorism has spread to Europe, Tunisia, Kuwait and other countries in the region.

Hassan gave a review of the political situation in Syria where terrorism, which he said poses a threat to humanity and is financed by Saudi Arabia and Turkey, is being faced by the state.

He added that unjust economic blockade imposed on Syria has had a negative impact on the Syrian people, noting that the Czech Republic can help lift economic sanctions against Syria.

For his part, Barek described talks with the Syrian side as positive, adding that Czech and EU are interested in stability in Syria.

He stressed on the necessity that all countries unite efforts to combat terrorism, particularly the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) which now represents the biggest problem not only in the Middle East countries but to the entire world after a recent wave of terrorist bombings in Europe, Tunisia and Kuwait.

“It is dialogue that leads to political settlement in Syria but confronting terrorists can only happen militarily,” he added, expressing his country’s concern over the spread of terrorism.
