Water Resources Ministry and UNICEF sign joint work agreement to provide drinking water for citizens

Damascus, SANA- Ministry of Water Resources and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) signed Sunday a joint work agreement to carry out vital projects in water and sanitation sectors to provide drinking water for citizens in all areas.

During the signing ceremony, Minister of Water Resources Kamal al-Sheikha affirmed that providing clean and safe water to all citizens in any residential gathering is a priority for the ministry, hailing the important role of UNICEF in supporting the water and sanitation sectors in Syria.

Al-Sheikha stressed the necessity of carrying out vital water projects, particularly in Aleppo which lacks wells badly.

The minister underlined the importance of responding quickly to the appeals of citizens who severely lack drinking water in unsafe areas, pointing to the ministry’s efforts in providing water tankers for citizens.

For her part, Hanaa Sanjar, UNICEF Resident Representative in Damascus highlighted the fruitful cooperation with the Water Resources Ministry and its importance for meeting the water sector needs and the facilitations offered for carrying out pressing projects.

She added that UNICEF is willing to expand the scope of work and increase the number of executed projects, particularly sustainable development projects.
