Directorate of Education in Aleppo restores 316 schools damaged by earthquake

Aleppo, SANA- Directorate of Education in Aleppo province said that Rehabilitation and maintenance work has been completed for 316 schools as a result of the earthquake disaster that took place last February.

Director of Education, Mustafa Abdel Ghani, told SANA that the number of schools damaged by the earthquake reached 1,019 in Aleppo, and the rehabilitation work is being carried out in cooperation with some international organizations and civil associations.

He said  that 349 damaged schools were evaluated and approved for maintenance, 316 schools were completed, while 30 schools were included in the upcoming maintenance plan.

” The Number of schools put into service in Aleppo province and its countryside reached 1,881 schools, including more than 600,000 male and female students, and providing with teaching staff and all their educational requirements”he added .

For his part, the head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation, Firas Al-Ali, explained that the damage caused to these schools ranged from minor to moderate, and the rubble is being removed and the affected parts are being demolished.

He stressed the Directorate’s keenness to accelerate the restoration work to attract students and enable their scientific and cognitive knowledge, address the problem of classroom density, achieve the quality of education and improve its environment.
