More than 22 thousand child benfit from National Program for Early Hearing Loss Detection

Damascus, SANA-  Members of the National committee for hearing survey discussed on Monday ways to enhance the national program’ work of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention of hearing loss with newborns.

During the meeting, the Committee members discussed the mechanism of cochlear implants operations and determining the necessary plan of implementation.

Health Minister, Dr. Hasan Al-Ghabbash, said that the number of newborn babies who have been tested by the hearing survey reaches 22422 since the launch of the program, with babies were referred to conduct additional studies.

Al-Ghabbash added that 20 babies were transformed to the intervention center and a total of 20 children were provided with hearing aids, including 6 candidates for cochlear implantation.

The National Program of Early Hearing Loss Detection and Intervention with newborns was launched on August 12nd of 2023 under the patronage and attendance of First Lady, Ms. Asma al-Assad.

The program targets all newborns during the first month of their lives in various governorates.
