Polyansky: US, UK refuse to discuss document about Israeli aggression on Iranian consulate in Damascus

New York, SANA-Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, announced that the UN and UK refused to discuss a statement prepared by Russia for the UN Security Council on the Israeli aggression targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

“Following the April 2 session of the UN Security Council about Israel’s attack on the consular department of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Russia prepared a draft UN Security Council media statement with a standard text for such cases. Nevertheless, the United States and the United Kingdom were reluctant to even discuss it, citing lack of unified approach to the incident during the session,” TASS news agency quoted Polyansky as saying Wednesday in a post on Telegram.

Polyansky pointed out that Washington, London and Paris “did not condemn this blatant violation of international law, but rather began a verbal acrobatics from which it was possible to conclude that Iran itself bears responsibility for this.”

“This is an excellent show of the Western trio’s double standards, and its true – not declarative – attitude to law and order in the international context,” he added.

Earlier, Polyansky said that his country’s delegation, “in agreement with our Iranian and Syrian colleagues, distributed a draft press statement to the Security Council condemning this attack,” considering it “another opportunity to test the true intentions of Western colleagues.”
