Damascus, SANA- Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi hailed on Sunday the latest national polio vaccination campaign as a roaring success, providing illustrative figures as he said 2,988,000 children under five received vaccination.
The minister clarified in a statement SANA received a copy of that the campaign results showed a steady increase in the number of immunized children in eastern and northeast provinces through health centers and mobile teams.
The results of the campaign, which was conducted between February 15 -19, showed that the number of vaccinated children in Deir Ezzor reached (263605), Hasaka (246985), Raqqa (228105), Aleppo (244448), Idleb (225329), Hama (331422), Homs (202098), Lattakia (187984), Tartus (130564), Quneitra (49983), Sweida (52194), Daraa (141333), Damascus Countryside (383024)and in Damascus (300926).
Yazigi noted that Ministry is taking tough measures for advancing the vaccination program and improving the coverage percentage in all vaccines included in the program in order to ensure that the Syrian vaccination program returns to the forefront of a regional WHO ranking as it was before the crisis.
The minister praised the performance of vaccination teams in the provinces which contributed to achieving great results, highlighting the role of media in raising health awareness.
In February, the Health ministry launched a national polio vaccination campaign that saw around 3 million vaccination doses distributed.
