Geneva, SANA-Syria’s ambassador to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Haydar Ali Ahmad, asserted that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on many countries have negative effects on the fundamental human rights so it should be lifted without condition.
“Marking the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action represents a new opportunity to renew all commitments regarding promoting universal respect and observance of human rights “Ali Ahmad said in a statement before the human rights council.
“Establishing just international order on the basis of the principles of the UN charter ensures the effective realization of the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Declaration”, the ambassador stressed adding that the states should implement their obligations regarding the principles of the international law and the UN charter along with promoting multilateralism and international collaboration to create an environment appropriate for universal genuine respect for human rights.
He added that the humanitarian suffering caused by these measures is exacerbated in emergencies and natural disasters and directly threaten the right to life and undermine the environment of the international cooperation needed in such circumstances.
Ali Ahmad called on the UN Human Rights High Commissioner to pay adequate attention to the negative impacts of the unilateral coercive measures and to exert efforts to address this impediment in front of the realization of human rights through circulating this case at HR75 Initiative, underscoring “it is time to overcome narrow political agendas, through enhancing mutual respect and international dialogue among states”.
