High-level Syrian-Russian ministerial meetings in Moscow

Moscow, SANA- The Syrian economic ministerial delegation held on Wednesday high-level ministerial meetings in Moscow with a number of Russian officials concerned with the joint economic cooperation file.

That came on the sidelines of the summit meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Syrian economic ministerial delegation was headed by Mansour Azzam, Minister of Presidential Affairs, while the Russian side was headed by Irek Fayzullin, Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities, Chairman of the Joint Syrian-Russian Committee.

These ministerial meetings come in the context of continuous follow-up of the work of the joint governmental committee between the two countries, and in an effort to strengthen bilateral efforts to confront the effects of illegal Western economic sanctions, in a way that guarantees the investment of the economic energies of the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The meetings dealt with issues of evaluating the axes of bilateral economic cooperation in terms of implementing joint investment projects and promising investment opportunities in Syria.

Mechanisms to enhance trade exchange and the flow of products into the markets of the two countries, especially (wheat, oils, fodder, etc.), in light of the extensive facilities and exemptions provided by the governments of the two countries were also on the table.

Important investment opportunities in Syria were also discussed in the energy sector, including power plants, oil and gas production, and issues of completing a number of water resources and drinking water projects, by benefiting from the expertise of Russian companies operating in this field.

During the meeting, Minister Azzam expressed thanks and appreciation to the Russian leadership, government and people for standing by Syria in the face of the repercussions of the earthquake that it was exposed to on February 6th.

For his part, Fayzullin said that the Syrian side represents an important and reliable partner for the Russian government, which pays full attention to developing relations with Syria and building long-term alliances with it on all economic, commercial, cultural, scientific and other levels.

He stressed that the Russian government will continue to provide all possible assistance to the Syrian people to mitigate the repercussions of the earthquake as much as possible.
