Kosachev: President al-Assad’s visit to Russia contributes to boosting bilateral relations

Moscow, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to the Russian capital, Moscow, and his talks with President Vladimir Putin are of great importance as they strengthen relations between the two countries in all fields, Senator Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council.

Kosachev’s comments came in an interview with SANA’s correspondent in Moscow on Wednesday.

“Russia did not have any doubts, not even for one day, about the correctness of its choice to cooperate with Syria and defend its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” the Russian senator said.

Kosachev highlighted the depth of the relations binding the Syrian and Russian peoples.

Kosachev said “The experiences that we went through in our cooperation together, especially after September 2015, have been very important not only for our two countries, but also for our wide circle of countries that may fall victim to Western ambitions.”

The West’s actions have never aimed at combating terrorism or supporting and protecting Syria, but rather its attempts have been directed towards achieving and supporting its economic, political and military interests only, according to the Russian senator.

Kosachev hailed the heroic steadfastness of the supreme political leadership in Syria in the face of the Western aggressive attempts.
