Damascus, SANA- In a global effort to raise awareness on breast cancer, October has been designated as the Pink Month. The Pink Month is a month where efforts to educate those concerned about the disease, including early identification and signs and symptoms associated with breast cancer.
To commemorate 2022 Pink Month, Health Ministry launched the national awareness campaign on the breast cancer.
The national campaign coincides with the campaign carried out by the Cancer Control National Program in Hama province, which was previously carried out in Tartous and Lattakia provinces to detect for breast, cervical and prostate cancers.
Head of Reproductive Health Department in the Ministry, Dr. Alaa Erksoussi said that the awareness campaign comes under the motto “Your awareness is your strength”, and will focus on activities of awareness and health education in and outside the health centers on breast cancer.
The campaign will also hold seminars on the latest scientific developments on breast tumors, according to Dr. Erksoussi
In a statement to SANA, Dr. Erksoussi pointed out that the campaign cares for women aged over 20 years to make a clinical test, and for those over the age 40 to have mammography and to guide the high-risk women aged 40 years to an ultrasound scan
The number of the health center that provide Reproductive Health services reach 960in various provinces, while the number of the health facilities that have mammography systems reach 34 in all provinces, except in Idleb and Daraa provinces due to the repercussion of the terrorist war on those areas, Dr. Erksoussi went on to say.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women with two million infections registered every year globally, while the average risk of a woman developing breast cancer is a 1 in 8.
