Mikdad affirms importance of enhancing coordination with Cuba at international forums 

New York, SANA- Means to enhance bilateral relations between Syria and Cuba were the main point of discussion during a meeting that brought together Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad and his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez.

The meeting was held Tuesday on sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77).

The two ministers Mikdad and Rodríguez highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination at the international forums on issues of mutual concern.

The meeting also touched upon the challenges which have resulted from the US escalation of its aggressive military and economic policies against the two countries, in addition to the negative impacts of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and Cuba.

Minister Mikdad noted that the relations binding the two countries are historic and solid, adding that there is no alternative to resisting American hegemony and moving forward in consolidating national sovereignty and resisting hostile policies against the peoples of the two countries.

The Cuban Minister, for his part, thanked Syria for its firm stance in support of Cuba in the face of the economic embargo imposed on it by the US.

The meeting was attended by Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Rania Al Haj Ali, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, and Ehab Hamed from the Office of the Foreign and Expatriates Minister.
