President al-Assad receives letter from President of Belarus expressing support for Syria

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad on Monday received Foreign Affairs Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei and the accompanying delegation.

Makei delivered to President al-Assad a letter from President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in which he expressed his country’s support for Syria in the face of the terrorist attack targeting it, with Lukashenko expressing confidence in the Syrian people’s ability to achieve victory and overcome the crisis and asserting that Belarus is committed to developing relations with Syria in all fields.

During the meeting, President al-Assad asserted that the terrorism which is beginning to strike in a number of countries requires an international effort and true will to deal with it, affirming that Syria will continue its war on terrorism in parallel with carrying out national dialogue and reconciliations on the ground.

President al-Assad noted that some Western states have an issue with states that have independent decision-making, which is why they pressure them using various methods, and this requires that these independent states support each other and cooperate to bolster their strength and realize their peoples’ will to preserve their sovereignty and prevent foreign interference in their internal affairs.

For his part, Makei said that Belarus supports the course taken by Syria for restoring security and stability to its territories, and that his country is committed to supporting the Syrian people and bolstering their steadfastness.

Makei noted that several states have changed their opinions about what is happening in Syria, and now they believe in the need for finding a solution for the crisis that limits the suffering of Syrians and curbs the risks of terrorism spreading in the region and the world.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ayman Sousan, the director of the Europe department at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry, and the Ambassador of Belarus in Syria.
