Damascus, SANA- Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad discussed Friday with Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi bilateral relations between Syria and China and the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.
In a video conference , Mikdad said that President Bashar al-Assad and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping have built the basis to develop relations between Syria and China, considering that this constitutes a real guarantee for the future of the relations between the two friendly countries.
Mikdad thanked China’s leadership and people for assistance it has provided and continues to provide in all areas, especially those related to confronting the Corona epidemic.
Mikdad affirmed Syria’s willingness to take further steps to enhance coordination and cooperation with the Chinese companies in all fields, especially in economic field.
Mikdad called on Chinese companies to take advantage of available investment opportunities in Syria and contribute to reconstruction, pointing to the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative and taking advantage of the opportunities it provides.
Mikdad hailed China’s wise policy based on respect for international law and seeking to consolidate security and stability in the world, stressing the importance of China’s role alongside Russia and other emerging powers in shaping a multipolar world away from unilateral Western hegemony.
Syria recognizes only one China, and it supports China’s efforts to confront attempts of external interference in its internal affairs, whether in Taiwan, Hong Kong or Xinjiang, Mikdad underlined.
He expressed Syria’s willingness to enhance coordination with China in various international forums to deal with attempts of theWestern interference in its domestic affairs.
Mikdad hoped that the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party would success, stressing the importance of bolstering relations between the Chinese Communist Party and the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party.
Minister Wang Yi said that China appreciates the steadfastness of the Syrian leadership and the Syrian people in the struggle against the Western attack on Syria and the results achieved in preserving Syria’s interests and defending its sovereignty and independence.
He stressed the importance of resuming the meetings of the Syrian-Chinese Joint Economic Commission and condemned the coercive economic measures illegally imposed on the Syrian people and the plundering of the Syrian people’s wealth as unacceptable piracy.
China supports a political solution to the Syrian crisis that takes into account the will and interests of the Syrian people, rejects interference in Syria’s internal affairs, and fully respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Wang Yi said
The Chinese minister expressed respect and support for the efforts of the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism.
He also voiced Beijing’s great appreciation for the positions of support for Syria in international forums in the face of Western plots that threaten sovereignty and integrity of the Chinese territory.
“China is always ready to provide support and assistance to the Syrian people in overcoming the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, and will continue to send medical and preventive aid, as well as food and other aid in accordance to the needs of the Syrian people, and in coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government,” he said.
