Al-Jaafari discuses with Khiari UNDOF mandate

Damascus, SANA-Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Bashar al-Jaafari, discussed Sunday with Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, and Commander of the UNDOF forces, General Ashwar Hamal, the mandate UN Monitoring Forces in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Al-Jaafari stressed the importance of UNDOF regaining its role and posts lost due to Israeli-backed terrorist groups.
Al-Jaafari asserted the importance of monitoring all Israeli violations of the Disengagement of Forces agreement of 1974, that constitute a constant threat to the lives of Syrians and UNDOF.

“These violations should be exposed in reports sent to the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council”, he said, adding that “the absence of such violation in these reports is politicized and contradicts the mandate of UNDOF”.

He urged Khiari and Hamal to work for the reopening of the Quneitra crossing, closed by the Israeli occupation forces.

Khiari thanked Syria for the immense support to the UNDOF and stated that he will consider, during his visit to the area of separation on the occupied Syrian Golan, all the points and issues discussed with al-Jaafari, particularly that of UNDOF’s regaining all the previous post.

Hamal, thanked Syria for the great support provided to the UNDOF, expressed his appreciation for Syria’s commitment to its commitments stipulated in the agreement, and promised to discuss all the points raised during the meeting with his superiors to implement them.
