Baghdad, SANA- With the participation of 15 plays from Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Tunis, Italy, France and several other countries, the 2nd Baghdad International Festival for Theater started activities on Sunday in Baghdad.
The plays participating in the festival will be performed on stage of Baghdad theaters over seven days.
In a speech during the opening ceremony, which was attended by Syrian Ambassador in Baghdad, Sattam Jadaan al-Dandah, Iraqi Minister of Culture, Hassan Nazim underlined the importance of the pioneering role of Arab theater in the early emergence of the first civilizations in Iraq, Egypt and Syria
In statements to SANA, Iraqi officials, artists and intellectuals expressed satisfaction with Syria’s participation in the festival.
Minister Nazim said that Syria’s participation is important and significant, adding ” with opening of the Iraqi theater, we restore cordial relations with the brotherly Arab countries”
For their part, Syrian artists also expressed happiness to participate in the festival.
