Homs, SANA – The severe snowstorm that hit the country over the past week has shifted focus, at least for the time being, of the volunteer youth campaigns to respond to the arising situation.
Most affected among the Syrians by the storm have been, of course, the needy people and the families who were displaced from their home areas to flee the terrorists and were taken into makeshift centers.
Those and the families of members of the army who were martyred or injured in the course of confronting the terrorist organizations were the target of a volunteer campaign that kicked off last Sunday in the western countryside of the central province of Homs.
Tens of women have taken part in the campaign, with those weaving wool clothes to be distributed to the targeted people, particularly children, while the young volunteers have undertaken the task of distribution under the motto “We Won’t Let Cold Kill Our Children”, according to Naji Darwish, the campaign’s supervisor.
He told SANA that the work started 30 days earlier, with civil society groups providing the necessary wool materials, while 30 women from the villages of Wadi al-Nadara area in Homs’ western countryside have carried out the weaving.
Darwish noted that the clothes had first been meant to be showcased at a charity souq (market) on the occasion of Christmas and New Year celebrations before the snowstorm shifted the focus.
Large numbers of youths at home and abroad have joined the campaign, which was promoted on social media sites, said Darwish, clarifying that those have been donating clothes, blankets and other winter requirements.
