Health Minister: 700 health centers out of commission due to terrorism

Damascus, SANA – Health Minister Nizar Yazigi on Monday inspected the healthcare services being provided in Abi Zar al-Ghifari and Adib al-Laham health centers in Damascus, asserting that the Ministry is exerting monumental efforts to meet citizens’ health needs despite the circumstances imposed by the crisis.

He said that the Ministry is working to develop the preliminary healthcare sector, which is one of the bases of the preventative and curative health services in Syria, by training medical staff and providing centers’ needs of medicine, supplies, and equipment.

He said that prior to the crisis the preliminary healthcare sector was serviced by over 1,900 health centers that provided free healthcare to citizens, but around 700 of these centers have been put out of commission due to terrorist attacks, depriving thousands of Syrian families from the services they provided.

There are currently 42 health centers in Damascus that provide preliminary healthcare services to citizens for free.
