Damascus, SANA- Health Minister, Hassan al-Ghabash said Saturday that the epidemiological situation of cholera is completely under control thanks to the proactive measures of the Ministry and the early response of the government.
Al-Ghabash’s remarks came during a meeting with representatives of United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations working in the field of health to discuss response to cholera outbreak.
“The national operational plan to control the cholera epidemic has been defined in three main axes and they are: health, water and community awareness, in addition to activating rapid response teams in all health departments,” the minister said.
The minister pointed out that the Ministry is working with full transparency regarding the diseases and the announcements of the figures on the epidemiological situation.
Al-Ghabash explained that the responsibility lies with the ministry, since it is the reference authority in health matters, especially in relation to the spread of diseases and epidemics, and in determining the epidemiological reality and disclosing statistics and numbers of infected.
Roles between organizations must be coordinated to serve citizens and benefit from the experience of Covid-19, since any delay in implementing the response is similar to its absence, he said.
In turn, the acting representative of the World Health Organization, Iman al-Shanqiti, noted the organization’s readiness to increase existing cooperation and coordination with the Ministry, especially in the field of increasing the number of rapid smears to detect the disease.
