Damascus, SANA-The People’s Assembly’s Directing and Guidance Committee and Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee discussed with Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad the current crisis and the Syrian government’s stances regarding latest developments.
Chairman of the Directing and Guidance Committee Dr. Walid Al Saleh hailed the role of the Syrian army on the ground to eradicate terrorism and restore security and stability to the homeland, praising the role of the Syrian diplomacy in defending Syria’s role and the interest of the Syrian people.
Mikdad, for his part, explained the principles of the Syrian policy which is drawn from the interests of the Syrian people, summing them up in protecting Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, rejection of foreign intervention and emphasis on fighting terrorism, as well as restoring occupied Arab lands, particularly the occupied Syrian Golan.
He hailed the deep bilateral relations between Syria and Russia that reflect the two countries’ identical stances, adding that Syria welcomes the Russian initiatives for starting preparatory consultations for solving the crisis through a consultative dialogue in Moscow.
Mikdad touched on issues related to the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura’s proposed plan “Aleppo First” and the Syrian government’s position, affirming that Syria is open to whatever ideas for fighting terrorism and supporting national reconciliations.
Syria’s relation with the United Nations organizations proceeds in a calculated way amid attempts by the West and the US to control the international community’s organizations and politicize the UN resolutions, Mikdad pointed out.
Mikdad stressed the necessity of implementing the UN Security Council resolutions, particularly counter-terrorism Resolutions 2170 and 2178.
He said the Syrian government works to deliver humanitarian aid to every single citizen in need, pointing to attempts to use the issue of humanitarian aid for political purposes.
The two committee’s members stressed the importance of enhancing the stances of Syria on the international level and developing relations with friendly countries.
