Iran’s FM: It is Syrians’ right to determine their future

Tehran, SANA-The Syrian people have the right to determine their future without foreign meddling in their internal affairs, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

Speaking during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, who is visiting the Iranian capital, Zarif hoped that Tehran and Ankara would close ranks in the face of their common enemy of extremism and terrorism, and prevent the flow of terrorists into Iraq and Syria.

The top Iranian diplomat noted that “neither Teheran nor Ankara want to see Syrians falling prey to terror and violence,” affirming that peace must be restored to Syria as soon as possible.

Acknowledging “different views” between Iran and Turkey regarding the situation in Syria, Cavusoglu hoped that the two countries will, nonetheless, reach a “common solution” to resolve the crisis.

Assassinations, killings and terrorism are the gravest threats jeopardizing the entire region, the Turkish official noted, pointing out that Turkey and Iran share a “genuine will” to combat this phenomenon despite differences in viewpoints.
