Syria receives three ambulances and five mobile clinics offered by WHO

Damascus, SANA_ The Ministry of Health has received three ambulances and five mobile clinics offered by the World Health Organization (WHO) to support health care services and the emergency system amid serious challenges posed by Western unilateral coercive measures against the health sector in Syria.

In a press statement after receiving the aid, Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Mohammad al-Ghabbash explained that the aid provided contributes to recovering the Syrian ambulance system that much of it has been destroyed by terrorism in recent years.

He said that a protocol was signed with the WHO to support this system, reactivate it and compensate for the shortage in it.

The Minister highlighted the contribution of WHO on a permanent basis by providing support and assistance to the health sector in Syria and coordination with the Ministry, whether in technical support and the development of capacities and skills of health workers or with financial support for equipment and medical supplies.

In a similar statement, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Ahmed Al-Manzari said the visit aims to directly identify the challenges and needs in Syria.

For her part, WHO Representative in Syria, Dr Akjemal Magtymova, said that the organization has been working closely with the Ministry of Health for many years in order to respond to health needs and joint cooperation.

“Since the beginning of the war in Syria, 69 ambulances and 30 mobile medical clinics have been offered,” she concluded.
