ECOSOC adopts resolution documenting Israeli practices against people in Golan

New York, SANA- United Nations Economic and Social Council “ECOSOC” on Tuesday adopted with majority a draft resolution documenting the aggressive practices of Israeli occupation and developmental, social, and economical effects and the serious damage left by such practices on the occupied Syrian Golan and Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The adoption of the resolution entitled “The economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East al-Quds, and the Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan” came after a recorded vote.

47 countries voted in favor of the resolution, three states “United States, Canada and Australia” opposed it while four other countries abstained from voting.

The representative of the permanent delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, Majd Nial, during his interposition expressed Syrian government’s appreciation of the report of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA” that the draft resolution based on it particularly documenting the repercussions of the long-term Israeli occupation on the Palestinian lands and the occupied Syrian Golan and harmful effects left on the living conditions of Palestinians and on the social and economic development in the occupied territories.

The permanent delegation affirmed Syria’s strong rejection of the reports and statements that indicate the existence of a scheme by the Israeli occupation authorities aimed at expanding the settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan and increasing the number of settlers.

The permanent delegation talked about the aggressive practices of the Israeli occupation in the Syrian Golan which have dangerous repercussions on the Syrian Citizens such as changes in school curricula of schools which with the aim of affecting the young students to separate them from their Syrian identity.

The delegation touched upon what the occupation authorities are doing in terms of imposing arbitrary measures to register lands with the aim of confiscating them and setting up huge “wind turbines” on the lands of the occupied Syrian Golan.
