New York, SANA – Syria reiterated demand to the United Nation to prepare a report on the harmony of laws and executive decisions issued by US Administration and European Union to impose an economic blockade on the Syrian people, with the provisions of the Charter and international law, humanitarian international law, and the relevant UNSC resolutions.
Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari spoke in letter to to the UN Secretary-General of the International Organization and President of the UN Security Council on Sunday that US and EU issued two executive decisions to renew and tighten the impacts of the unilateral economic coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.
Meanwhile the declaration of the US administration on the 17th of June put into effect of the so-called “Caesar’s Act “, which imposes new unilateral economic, financial and banking measures against Syria and against each third party who seeks to participate in economic, commercial, investment and service activities in Syria.
Al-Jaafari reiterated Syria’s demand to UN Secretary-General to instruct the competent legal and political authorities in the General Secretariat to prepare an urgent report, which includes practical recommendations on the extent of the harmony of laws and executive decisions issued by the US administration and the European Union to impose an economic blockade on the Syrian people, with the provisions of the UN Charter, international law, humanitarian international law, and the relevant UNSC resolutions.
He pointed out to the deep negative impacts of the US and European unilateral coercive measures on the lives of Syrian people and the ability of the United Nations to implement its humanitarian assistance programs in Syria.
He concluded that Syria affirmed its official call and it is waiting for the Secretary General to respond and inform it as soon as possible about the measures which have taken and they would be taken regarding this serious and important matter.
