Damascus, SANA- The Syrian Science Olympiad team won five bronze medals and five certificates of appreciation at the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) competitions which was organized by Indonesia via the Internet on the tenth of last March with the participation of about fifty countries as it results were announced on Wednesday.
The Excellence and Creativity Commission said in a statement that the bronze medals were won by students Abdul Karim al-Sayyed Ramadan from “Al-Saada Secondary School in Damascus, Ali Bakkour from Al-Bassel Secondary School for Outstanding Students in Aleppo and Majd Nasser from “Al-Kumait Ibrahim Blaidy Secondary School for Outstanding Students in Lattakia and Hussein Hayyan Khalil from Fahim Mohammad School” in Tartous province.
The Commission added that the certificates of appreciation were also attained by students, Mohammad Fouad al-Mou’ain from Al-Basel High School for Outstanding Students in Aleppo, Mohammad Anas al-Qudsi from Al-Bassel High School for Outstanding Students in Tartous, Louis Shaalan from Al-Saada High school in Damascus”, Mazen Muzahim from Al-Saada High school in Damascus and Nour Bishlawi, from Al-Basel High School for the Outstanding Tartous.
The Commission noted that with these results, Syria maintained its twenty-first international rank as the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad for Mathematics is the strongest international competition after the World Olympics and its tests simulate the level and style followed by the world Olympics in terms of content and method in addition to the strength of competition in it.
The participation in this Olympiad is an important preparatory station for the Syrian Olympiad team, as part of its preparations to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which will be organized by Russia “remotely” during the coming period.
