Al-Jaafari: Syria’s constitution, drawing its future an inalienable right for its people

New York, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari stressed that Syria’s constitution and drawing its future are an inalienable right for its people, indicating that the greatest danger to the committee of discussing the constitution is the attempts of some parties to interfere in its work and hinder its efforts.

During a UN Security Council’s session held in New York on Friday, al-Jaafari said “Two weeks ago, we witnessed the plenary and mini meetings’ of the committee of discussing the constitution, as the Syrian state has dealt with flexibility and positively during the preparatory phase which was confirmed by the UN and its special envoy Geir Pedersen, who illustrated in his briefing today that the first round of the committee’s meetings witnessed discussions on a number of issues related to its work and adopted a group of procedures.”

Al-Jaafari renewed that Syria affirmed the importance of full adherence to the references and rules related to the work of the committee of discussing the constitution, on top of which the respect of all the UN member states to Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and its ownership and leadership of the political process, as well as facilitating and neutral role of the UN special envoy and non-imposing any preconditions or conclusions or dates on the work of the committee or recommendations because drafting Syria’s constitution and determining its future are an exclusive and inalienable right to the Syrian people that can’t be abandoned.

He expressed Syria’s satisfaction of the confirmations of the UN and its special envoy in this regard and its hope that this will be crystalized in a tangible way in the committee’s coming meetings, which should present the outcomes of its works to the Syrian people as the only one authorized to study and judge what the committee has reached.

Al-Jaafari hailed the active participation of the delegation supported by the Syrian government in the discussions of the first round, asserting that the delegation will discuss its duties by itself and based on its national convictions as the dialogue will be a Syrian-Syrian one and under a Syrian leadership and ownership.

He slammed  the interference of some international and regional sides  in the work of the committee, particularly the Turkish regime which has occupied  Syrian territories and killed many Syrian people and displaced more than 180 thousands people with the aim of gathering the terrorists linked with Erdogan on the Syrian land under the pretext of what he called the “safe zone”, which Syria rejects and considers as an occupation of land which must be dealt with on this basis according to the principles of the international law and the provisions of the relevant charter.

Syria’ representative to the UN indicated that the U.S. administration announced, in coincidence with launching the work of the committee of discussing the constitution, the occupation of the Syrian oilfields and looting their resources which belong to the Syrian people under the silence of the so-called “the human, political and chemical  campaign” at the Security Council and those behind them.

Al-Jaafari went on to say  that the Israeli occupation entity has launched repeated aggression on Syria and continued its attempts to dedicate its occupation of the Syrian Golan in a flagrant violation of the international law and the UN Security Council resolution no. 350 for the year 1974 related to the Separation of Forces agreement and the latest of which the aggression which was carried out by Israel  two days ago and claimed the lives of a number of civilians and destroyed a number of houses,.

Al-Jaafari reiterated that the reasons behind the crisis is the international terrorism which targets Syria for political purposes connected with changing the geopolitical map in the region which means that the war on Syria will end when the foreign-backed terrorism ends.

He stressed that the Syrian people categorically rejects the occupation and terrorism practised by some terrorist organizations under multiple names and loyalties, including Daesh (ISIS), Jabhat al-Nusra and the Muslims Brotherhood, as well as the Syrian people rejects any separatist project, calling for immediate lift of the coercive unilateral measures imposed on them as they represent an economic terrorism.
