Syria participates in World Radiocommunication Conference 2019, Egypt

Cairo, SANA- Syria is participating in the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 (WRC-19) kicked off on Monday in Sharm el-Sheikh city , Egypt, with the participation of 140 states and in presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The Syrian delegation to the conference is chaired by Minister of Telecommunications and Technology Eng. Iyad al-Khatib.

Al-Khatib, in a statement to SANA correspondent, underlined the importance of Syria’s participation in the conference which would serve the reality of the telecommunications and the sustainable development in the country.

He indicated that the conference will discuss the Telecommunication Treaty and a number of amendments, adding that the conference will come up with binding recommendations along with preserving the privacy of each state.

Al-Khatib noted that Syria’s participation in the conference after years of hiatus due to the terrorist war waged against it will contribute to conveying a message from Syria through the international forums to the whole world that Syria has returned stronger than ever after defeating terrorism and the aggression thanks to the resilience and strength of its people and army.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes the conference every four years and this is the first time the conference is being held outside the headquarters of the ITU in Geneva from about 20 years.

More than 3500 telecommunication experts from 140 states and more than 50 telecommunication ministers and deputy ministers from countries across the world are participating in the conference, in addition to the participation of more than 50 companies and international organizations which work in the domain of telecommunication from all over the world.
