Russia, China Veto a draft resolution that aims to protect terrorists in Idleb

New York, SANA-Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a Kuwaiti, German and Belgian draft resolution which aims to protect terrorists in Idleb under the pretext of cessation of combat activities.

Al-Jaafari: western states stand behind the “co-penholders” in formulating a biased draft resolution on “cessation of combat activities”

Following the voting session, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed that western states stand behind the three “co-penholders” countries in formulating a biased draft resolution on “cessation of combat activities” in Idleb while they ignore the war crimes perpetrated by the so-called international coalition and their tools of terrorists.

“Syria wonders the silence of those countries when it comes to the illegitimate presence of the foreign troops on its territories and the Israeli repeated aggressions on the country,” al-Jaafari said.

He added that the practices of “co-penholders” stats have proven the huge gap between the principle and application of the item about adherence to Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Al-Jaafair wondered why the co-penholders hadn’t coordinated with Syria before submitting the draft resolution and how they ignore its approval on the cease-fire in Idleb.

“How can the co-holders claim their commitment to the humanitarian situation in Syria while they ignore, in the draft resolution, the basic reason behind the humanitarian crisis there, which is terrorism,” al-Jaafari said.

He went on to say that Washington and the Turkish regime have announced an agreement about the so-called “buffer zone” on  Syrian territories in order to complicate and prolong the span of the crisis through attempts of creating new status quo.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that ‘the co-holders” states participate in the economic terrorism represented by imposing unilateral, coercive measures which have catastrophic impacts on the Syrian people.

Meanwhile, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya said that his country vetoed the draft resolution because it aims to rescue the terrorists in Idleb.

“The draft resolution also ignores the fight against terrorism in Syria,” Nebenzya said, adding that presenters of the draft resolution turned a blind eye to the outcomes of Syrian National Dialogue Conference of Sochi that excluded terrorist organizations from any cease-fire.

He wondered how “their humanity disappeared when the International Coalition fully destroyed Raqqa city.
