Syria participates in 72nd World Health Assembly

Geneva, SANA – Meetings of the 72nd World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), kicked off on Monday in Geneva, with the participation of Syria.

Syria’s delegation to the Assembly is headed by Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi, who joins representatives of 194 countries to discuss topics such as preparing for health emergencies and responding to them, improving the health conditions of refugees and immigrants, the health situation in occupied Palestinian territories and the occupied Syrian Golan, and eliminating polio and smallpox.

Other topics that will be discussed include means to achieve comprehensive health coverage, providing medicine and vaccines, preparing to deal with influenza pandemics, and more.

On the sideline of the Assembly, Yazigi met Belarusian and Palestinian counterparts Valery Malashko and Mai Alkaila.

The Assembly’s meetings will continue until May 28th.
