Putin, Aoun express support to Syria in combating terrorism

Moscow, SANA- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lebanese President Michael Aoun reiterated their countries’ support to the Syrian efforts for combating terrorism, affirming that there is no substitute for the political solution to the crisis in it.

Russia Today quoted that two Presidents as saying in a joint statement they issued following their meeting at the Kremlin on Tuesday that Russia and Lebanon respect Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and they adhere to the principled stance which is based on that there is no substitute for solving the crisis in Syria through peaceful means.

The two sides voiced support to solving the crisis in Syria through political diplomatic means based on the Security Council’s resolution no. 2254 and the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi.

In their statement, the two presidents expressed firm support to the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government along with its allies in the domain of combating terrorism, particularly Daesh (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations and other organizations which are affiliated to them.

The statement hailed the effectiveness of Astana meeting in paving the suitable conditions for launching the political process for solving the crisis in Syria.

The two presidents called for pushing forwards the exerted efforts for guaranteeing the return of all the displaced Syrians to their hometowns after liberating them from terrorism.
