Lavrov calls for unifying efforts to push political process in Syria forwards

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined the necessity of unifying efforts of all the parties concerned with the aim of pushing the political process in Syria forwards.

A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Lavrov, during a phone call with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman al-Safadi, considered that launching the work of the committee of discussing the constitution soonest possible is a the starting point of that process and this will be done according to the Security Council’s resolutions and the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress held in Sochi last year.

The statement added that Lavrov and al-Safadi in this regard referred to the efforts exerted by the guarantor states of Astana talks “Russia, Iran and Turkey” to form the committee.

Both sides expressed hope to enhance the fruitful cooperation with United Nations Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen.

The statement clarified that the two ministers exchanged viewpoints on the settlement in the Middle East, affirming that there is no substitute for the diplomatic political solution to solve the conflicts in the region based on the internationally recognized legal rules.
