Moscow, SANA – UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his visit to Moscow on Oct. 21, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.
Gatilov was quoted by Russia Today Website as saying “In accordance with the agreement reached in September on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly in New York, Staffan de Mistura will arrive to Moscow on October 21. He is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and we consider this meeting to be very important.”
He hoped that de Mistura will contribute to resuming dialogue regarding the crisis in Syria, saying “We notice that de Mistura intends to re-launch inter-Syrian contacts and pays a lot of efforts to the purpose. We hope that he will tell us his ideas allowing to re-launch the political process on Syria.”
He added that his country is very interested in listening to de Mistura’s assessments with regard to his visit to Damascus where he met the representatives of the Syrian leadership, in addition to the consultations he held in other regional countries including Tehran.
In a relevant context, Gatilov described Iran as an important regional player which must participate in discussing the means of settling the crisis in Syria.
