Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad received on Monday Senior Assistant to Iran’s Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, and the accompanying delegation.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in Syria and the region, stressing the importance of the Syrian-Iranian relations as a factor of stability in the region in the face of US policies and tools, which are based on spreading chaos and weakening countries that refuse to submit to its policies.
The discussion also touched upon the stages achieved in the fight against terrorism and efforts made to achieve progress on the political track, especially with regard to the formation of a committee for discussing the current constitution where there was consensus that the US administration and the states supporting terrorism are working to put obstacles in the way of the two tracks in an attempt to achieve in politics what it has failed to achieve throughout the years of war.
The two sides affirmed Syria’s and Iran’s determination to continue combating terrorism on the one hand and to continue efforts aimed at moving ahead with the political path in spite of the American obstacles to ending the war against Syria and restoring security and stability to the Syrian territories, which will enhance stability in the region as a whole.
They also discussed bilateral relations and steps taken by the two sides to further develop relations to serve the interests of the Syrian and Iranian’s peoples.
The meeting was attended by Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad, Director of the Asia Department at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry and Iranian Ambassador in Damascus.
In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem also met Ansari and discussed with him means of bolstering strategic relations between the two brotherly countries and the latest developments in Syria and the region, especially the current political efforts and communications in the context of Astana process on forming a committee for discussing the current Constitution and its action mechanism.
They also discussed the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral coordination between the two sides in the upcoming phase.
