Damascus, SANA – The Tourism Ministry launched a number of activities as part of its two-day celebration of World Tourism Day.
The activities include a Damascene traditional handicrafts exhibition, an open-air cuisine exhibition, a bazaar, and oriental music performances in al-Tekiyeh al-Sleimaniyeh in Damascus Old City, in addition to cleaning campaigns inside and around Damascus Citadel.
Tourism Minister Bishr Yazigi said these activities and others held in other provinces to mark World Tourism Day seek to showcase the heritage and culture of Syrians despite the war waged against them, stressing that revitalizing internal tourism is a victory for Syria and an important factor in development, particularly social development.
The handicrafts exhibitions showcases Damascene brocade, mosaics, handmade painted glassware, and carpets, in addition to items made from recycled materials.
World Tourism Day is observed on September 27. It seeks to raise awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value.
