New York, SANA – Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said that the U.S.-led coalition strike on Syrian popular forces which were fighting terrorists in Deir Ezzor is “regrettable”, demanding Washington to provide an explanation on what happened.
Nebenzia made his remarks before the United Nations Security Council closed-door meeting to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria held at the request of Sweden and Kuwait.
“That’s very regrettable, we will raise that issue and ask them what happened,” he added.
Nebenzia regretted the UN Security Council’s rejection to condemn the terrorist shelling of residential neighborhoods and the building of Russia’s commercial mission in Damascus, noting that the UNSC member states rejected a text suggested by Russia.
He considered some states’ call for a temporary cessation of hostilities in Syria for humanitarian purposes to be unrealistic taking into account the terrorists’ acts.
