Russia invites Iraq and Egypt to participate in Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi

Baghdad, SANA- Russia has invited Iraq to take part in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, scheduled to be held in Sochi next week.

“During a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, the Russian Ambassador in Baghdad, Maxim Maximov , handed over a message from Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, inviting Iraq to participate in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, which will be held on January 29-30.” The Iraqi Foreign Minister’s office said in a statement on Monday.

Last December, the guarantor countries (Russia, Iran and Turkey) agreed to convene the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi on January 29-30.

On Saturday, Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, said that the lists of participants in the Sochi Congress were agreed upon by the guarantor countries.

Egypt receives official invitation from Russia to attend Syrian National Dialogue Congress

Egypt received an official invitation from Russia to attend the Syrian National Dialogue Congress due to be held in the city of Sochi next week, Spokesperson of Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

In a statement on Monday, Abu Zeid said that the Russian side sent an invitation to the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Ministry to attend the Congress in which Syrian national forces will gather to discuss means to reach a political solution for the crisis in Syria.

Abu Zeid affirmed Egypt’s firm position on supporting a political solution for the crisis in a manner that preserves the integrity and unity of the Syrian state and meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.
