American delegation visits social care centers in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – The delegation of American activists currently visiting Syria visited on Friday two social care centers in the city of Damascus in order to learn about the work of a number of civil associations and the services provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.

The delegation visited Lahn al-Hayat Childcare Center in Qudsaya which provides services for children who lost family care from infancy until they finish high school, in addition to finding them job opportunities later. The center’s 130 residents receive all kinds of care and health and educational services through surrogate mothers.

In al-Amal Complex in Bab Msalla area, the delegation visited the Temporary Care Center for girls, which receives girls under the age of 18 by monitoring cases of homelessness and begging by a joint team of the Ministry and Child Rights Association in cooperation with the concerned authorities.

The delegation also visited the Special Education for Mental Disability Institute which is part of the Complex, and which is currently providing permanent care for more than 23 children.

Following the tour, the delegation met Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qadiri, who briefed them on the Ministry’s work mechanisms.

In a statement, the head of the delegation Marcus Southworth said that the delegation was impressed by the social care centers and the quality of the services provided there, underlining the importance of spreading awareness and influencing public opinion in his country to lift sanctions on Syria and contribute to the reconstruction process.
